Select the picture and the link and print out the ten frames. Cut them out. Even better yet ask your child for help. Cutting is good fine motor practice and it's okay if they're not cut out perfectly. Shuffle the ten frame cards. Pick the top card. Ask you child what number it is? If they don't know, count the number of dots.
If they know, ask why they know? If the ten frame card is a 7 answers can be because each side is five and five plus two are seven. If the ten frame card is a three answers may be; because each side is five and there are only three dots or each side is five and there are two spaces empty so that means three.
No matter what number is represented on the ten frame and even if they know the answer ask them why that is the answer.
Know for the fun part, before you select a ten frame card, the child chooses a movement. The movements are jump, clap, stomp, tap or snap. Whatever the number of the ten frame card is the child and maybe even yourself do the movement. Example, the child chooses jump as the movement. The card that is turned over is a 5 . After discussing what number it is and why, you jump 5 times.
