Build a bridge! What will you decide to build with? You can use any materials you can find. You could use things from the recycling, like cardboard, cans, or plastic containers. You could use building toys, like lego, duplo, or blocks. You could even try to build a bridge out of just paper!
Once you are finished building your bridge, test it out. How strong is it? How much can it hold up without collapsing? How could you make it even stronger?
Below, I will show you how to make a bridge out of just paper. You just need 1 piece of plain paper to start. Lay the piece of paper flat across a space to make it a bridge. Will it hold anything up? Or does it collapse?
Take your paper and fold up the two long sides. Test it again. Does it hold more than when the paper was flat?
Now try folding up your paper like a fan. Fold it forwards and back until you reach the end. Test it out. Does it hold more than when it was folded just on the edges? How much can it hold now?
You can try making your bridge with more than 1 piece of paper. Does that make it stronger? Try folding it with 2 or more pieces of paper. How much can your bridge hold now?
