First, think about what kind of game you want to make. Some questions to ask yourself:
What will you be moving on the board? What will you use for game pieces?
How will they get to move? Will you use a dice? Or will you make cards? What would you write/draw on the cards?
What will your game board look like? (You can look below for some ideas, if you can't think of anything)
Will there be any tricks or traps?
What happens if you land on one of the traps?
How do you win the game?
Look below to find some ideas of different kinds of game boards. You may want to use some of these ideas, or come up with some completely different ones!
You could make your board game going around the outside of your paper, like the game 'Trouble'. The game pieces have to go all the way around the square before they get to the safe spot.
You could make your game in rows. Follow the numbers until you get to the top, like in 'Snakes and Ladders'. This has tricks in it: if you land on the snake you have to slide back down.
You could make your game go back and forth like the game I made. It has some spots where you get to slide ahead. It also has some tricky spots, like the one that says, '-5' and you have to go backwards 5 steps.
