10 magnetic tiles (you could use 10 post-it notes, or anything else you can think of) - you could also use more tiles if your child has mastered numbers to 10 - remember to practice your French numbers too!
2 rubber ducks (or a toy for each player in the game)
dice (one each or you could take turns with one)
To get your toy to the 10th tile first!
First person to get their duck to the 10th tile and it does not matter if you roll a number that give you a number greater than 10.
First person to get their duck (toy) to the 10th tile by rolling the EXACT number you need to add up to 10. (For example, if you are on the 9th tile, you need to roll a 1 to win the game.
Take turns rolling the dice.
When you roll the dice, identify the number and place that number of tiles out for your duck's path. You'll count your tiles again as you move your duck along your path.
Keep playing until one of the ducks has made it to the end of their path.
As you play, you can talk about how many more you need to get 10.
"You're on 4, how many more do you need to get to 10?
Use your fingers to model how many more - "Look - you moved four - you need six more to get to ten."
