On March 25th this year, the 20th annual Empty Bowls Luncheon hosted by Catholic Charities took place in the Notre Dame Gymnasium. The luncheon was a great success, thanks to a collaboration with Barb’s Soups and Cafe! Attendees enjoyed a fresh, hot bowl of soup while listening to various speakers and the Notre Dame Women’s Select Chorus. Notre Dame junior Payton Sutryk was invited to speak on behalf of the Supper Club and why attending the luncheon is such a special opportunity. This event aims to raise awareness about hunger, particularly in our local community. The meal is held during Lent as a way to fast and give to others during the Holy Season.
Every April 22nd, people worldwide come together to celebrate Earth Day, a time to appreciate the beauty of our planet and reflect on how we can better care for it. As Catholic school students, we are called to be stewards of God’s creation. Whether it is recycling, conserving energy, or simply picking up trash, even the smallest actions can make a real difference when done with intention and consistency.
At Notre Dame, there is a unique opportunity to lead by example. Earth Day is not just about one day, it is a reminder to live each day with respect for the environment and gratitude for the world around us. The people today have the creativity and heart to protect the planet, but it starts with action. Let’s be the ones who make a change, not just for ourselves but for future generations.
