The virtual Finger Lakes Gives fundraising event was held on Friday the 13th; it was a great day for Notre Dame as well as the many nonprofit organizations in our community. FLX Gives is a twenty-four hour event dedicated to giving back to our community by raising money for various causes. The Notre Dame community had an amazing showing with raising enough funds to be second on the leaderboard, great job Crusaders! Many of these generous donors were under the age of eighteen and therefore had their donations supplemented ten dollars as a gift from the Rose’s Youth Philanthropists group of the Community Foundation. Chuck the Crusader played a critical role in Notre Dame’s philanthropic performance on Friday with his enthusiastic video filmed in the community with several ND students. Overall, FLX Gives was an incredible day of philanthropy for the community and we cannot wait for next year!

This year as Thanksgiving approaches many families are struggling to decide how to celebrate together without abandoning COVID rules. There is a battle between tradition, family and health and awareness. Many families have long lasting traditions for the holiday season, especially Thanksgiving, and are torn on how to honor them. The CDC posted a guide to celebrating the holidays and compares the risks of different events. The most recommended celebration is to eat with the members of your household and “Zoom” with other family members. While this type of celebration may be against tradition it seems to be the safest and most practical during these uncertain times.
