On Wednesday the 20th, Notre Dame High School hosted the Catholic Charities of Chemung & Schuyler County Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon. Crusaders helped set up tables, serve food and drinks, entertain guests, and pack away the dishware and crates. During the event, the Women’s Select Choir performed for the guests and the Supper Club made a presentation led by Mrs. Ryan and Bella Mashewske. It was a wonderful event catered by Barb’s Soups On.

"A Step Back in Time" was a celebration presented by Notre Dame and planned by Linn Redder, our Director of Development Operations. This event took place on Saturday, March 9, and adults got to come dressed up in clothing from their favorite decade. "A Step Back in Time" celebrated sixty-eight years of Notre Dame High School and one hundred years of the Iszard’s building. During this event, there was a live auction, a silent auction and tons of phenomenal music. Families, friends, and alumni all showed up to support Notre Dame High School.

March 17th is known as a holiday called Saint Patrick's Day. Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated in the U.S. with leprechauns, shamrocks, and anything green! Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in other parts of the world such as Canada, Brazil, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia. Did you know that Saint Patrick’s is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival? Saint Patrick’s Day is really the feast day of Saint Patrick, a patron saint of Ireland. In Ireland they celebrate with music, dancing, parades, and horse racing.

Saint Joseph’s day is on March 19, 2024 and celebrates St. Joseph, the Stepfather to Jesus and the husband to Mary. He is commemorated as the patron Saint of the Universal Church, unborn children, travelers, families, and workers. Joseph was a descendent of King David and lived in Nazareth as a carpenter. Joseph married Mary and then found out she was already pregnant. Joseph was worried, but was told by an angel in a dream that the child Mary was carrying was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was the son of God. Joseph did everything in his power to keep Mary and Jesus safe which included fleeing King Herod when he heard about the harm he wanted to cause the child. St. Joseph is celebrated for following the path that God made for his life which started with not divorcing Mary when he learned she was pregnant as well as believing that she was pregnant with the son of God. St. Joseph went above and beyond to keep Jesus safe and to serve God as directed. Present day, we honor and celebrate St. Joseph by holding Mass to honor and thank him for providing love and protection to Jesus and Mary.

Easter is on March 31st this year but it’s different every year. How do we know when Easter will be? Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. We celebrate Easter with egg hunts, easter baskets and chocolate. What is Easter really? Easter is the Resurrection of Jesus three days after his crucifixion.
