For this year's Lenten Project, the Notre Dame community is raising money in the most generous way possible. Back in December, when delivering the Golden Mass gifts, we found out that there was a wonderful woman who needed our help. This woman has two children; she wants the best for them and to have a better childhood than she did. She had to walk from work to school repeatedly and her best option for transportation was to pull a wagon for her children.
With the help of Mrs. McCaig, we have decided to raise money for a new car for this woman. Notre Dame has collaborated with the Ferrario Auto Team and a parent/lacrosse coach, Geoff Crossley. The Ferrario Auto Team has helped contribute to this purchase and has also provided an invaluable extended service warranty for her. Mr. Crossley has been helping this woman with her driving abilities; in fact, he recently helped her get her permit. They have arranged for the purchase of a 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude. Our goal for this car was $5,000 and for the past five weeks, since Ash Wednesday, our Notre Dame community has raised $4,542. In addition to the car, Notre Dame has offered to provide insurance for one year and many gas cards. Many students have been honoring their pledges to help this woman, whether it was in cents or dollars, but every amount matters.
When this woman was told about our project, she wept and said she will show her gratitude towards our students. We plan to have the car ready for her in April for an amazing post-Easter surprise. Mrs. McCaig and many others want to thank everyone for their cooperation in this year’s Lenten Project.
This is a 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude - not the actual one we are purchasing, but this is what they look like!
