What do you do here at Notre Dame?
I am the Athletic Director and Law & Society teacher.
Why did you choose to come to Notre Dame?
Because I like it here and enjoy working with student athletes.
What is one thing you like at Notre Dame?
The athletics programs.

Q: What do you do, and what inspires you to do your job?
A: I recruit our international students. I also love to travel and go to new places, meet new people, and see new things. I like to learn about other countries and cultures and see what they do on a daily basis compared to us.
Q: Why did you decide to work at Notre Dame?
A: Ms. Mack asked if I was interested in recruiting candidates for the “Notre Dame family” and I travel to go and meet them.
Q: Do you like your office?
A: I love my office, I'm going to put a big map of the world on the wall.
Q: What's your favorite subject that is taught at Notre Dame?
A: Theology, because as an adult I find it interesting to learn about all the religions that are practiced around the world; if you know a little bit about different religions you can better connect with recruits.
Q: What/Who is your favorite book, author, singer, or song/song type?
A: My favorite book is “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. Kate Quinn, who writes historical fiction, is my favorite author and my favorite musical artist is Harry Connick, Jr.
Q: If you could do anything else, what would it be (occupation wise)?
A: I have a second job after school which is to work as a hairdresser at my house.
Q: What would your perfect day look like?
A: It would be 72 degrees Fahrenheit outside, with an audio book, Crockett and my dogs outside.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I have 8 ducks, 1 cow, 2 horses, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a fish.
Q: What is your dream vacation?
A: I want to go to Europe, all of Europe, to see Germany and to see just everything.

Mrs. Horton
Mrs. Horton teaches History here at Notre Dame High School. It is her first year teaching at Notre Dame. She states that it is enjoyable teaching here and that the students have been welcoming and kind. It is her 26th year of teaching and she started as a kindergarten teacher on Long Island. She says she likes to read, go to the beach, and bake.

Where are you from?
I was born in New York City, but grew up in Jersey.
How'd you end up in Elmira?
I used to live in Bath, and spent summers up here, but eventually decided to move here with my wife.
When did you decide to join the clergy?
I finished my undergraduate degree in religious studies at Montclair State, and found myself in graduate school at Saint Bernard to become a member.
What made you get into teaching?
My parishioners from Elmira introduced me to Notre Dame, and I saw an opening and applied.
What are your hobbies?
I am a musician and play various instruments, I do Yoga, and I like to hang out with my wife.
What is your favorite thing about ND?
I like the family environment, it really feels like family.

Mr. Miller
Mr. Miller teaches English here at Notre Dame High School. It is his first year teaching at Notre Dame. He coaches the boy’s varsity soccer team. He has been teaching for two years and formerly taught second grade in Oregon. He used to play the drums and give lessons. He said the students are awesome, very respectful, and welcoming. In his free time, he likes to listen to music, play video games, and golf.

Where did you get your education?
I went to do my undergrad at University of Rochester, and got my masters at Suny Cortland.
What made you decide to get into teaching?
Just the love of history and the opportunity to teach full time as a career.
Why is African American History so important?
African American History is so important because it is American history and it is so often overlooked in the education curriculum.
What are your hobbies?
I like sports, fishing, hunting, drawing, reading, people, and cooking.
What are your thoughts on Notre Dame?
It seems to be very welcoming and chill, but I am taking note of the level of academic stress here.

Q: What inspires you to teach?
A: I love learning as a student and learning from students. I've been doing this for a long time (56 years as an educator).
Q: What's your educational background?
A: I have a B.A. degree in English from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, an all-women's Catholic college, and an M.A. degree in English from Georgetown University in Washington DC; before college, I was a pre-med student.
Q: What former schools have you worked at?
A: Notre Dame (here) as a principal from 2008 to 2011, Ethel Walker School as a dean in Connecticut (oversaw the curriculum and the faculty), Montgomery County Public Schools near Washington, D.C. as a teacher, director of 2 programs for students at risk of dropping out, and educator for 6th grade - college.
Q: All-time favorite book, movie, and/or song/artist?
A: Some of my favorite books are ‘’Beloved” by Toni Morrison, “To kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, and an Eleanore Roosevelt autobiography. The Rolling Stones (famous rock and roll band that is British) are one of my favorite bands, and I like classical music from composers like Mozart.
Q: If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Fly, I love to fly in planes, my son is a pilot, I really admire pilots and wish I could fly without a plane, and be in the clouds without a barrier.
Q: What would your perfect day look like?
A: A flight trip to Scotland, just sitting by the river called Tweed in Southern Scotland, while reading a Jane Austen novel.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: Read, take walks, do gardening, go on adventures, visit with friends.
Q: What is your dream vacation?
A: A trip to Venice, Milan, Tuscany, Italy
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I have a 17 lb Balinese cat named Fig who is 8 years old and I have had him since he was 12 weeks old.
Q: Which sports teams are your favorite?
A: The Washington Capitols (hockey), the Washington Nationals (baseball), and the Connecticut women's basketball team.
Q: Did you ever play any sports?
A: I used to play basketball and was a competitive swimmer at Notre Dame, Connecticut, all-girls school K-12.

A: Multiple sports like volleyball and stuff

A: Fine but some things are always good and work

A: Near Napoli, Caserta is close to Napoli which is where I am from.

A: Yes, I wanted to come here because it was near New York near New York City

A: Can't use our phones and we have to wear a uniform
Q: Do you like your schedule?
A: Yeah, but I have too many study halls.
Q: Are you having a good time here?
A: Yea, but I’m scared of how cold it's gonna be later on in the year.
Q: What is dorm life like?
A: Fun to be living with friends and knowing different cultures but children interrupting work and wifi doesn't always work but it is over all fun.
Q: In the dorms do you have a roommate?
A: No, only my room. Every one of the five girls has their own room.
Q: Do you plan on sticking around for senior year?
A: I don’t know, I am thinking about it.
Q: Do you plan on going to college?
A: Nope.

When I asked Marino about Notre Dame he said that the rules are fair and the teachers are nice. After the school year, Marino will go back to Italy to continue high school. In Italy high school is 5 years compared to the U.S’s 4 years. After finishing high school he will go to university. Marino doesn’t know if he is going to university in the States or in Italy.
Marino has gone out in the Elmira area multiple times; one of those times he went shopping with the ND Head of School, Ms. Mack.
