On February 4, under the command of President Biden, the United States Air Force shot down a balloon sent by the Chinese government into the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of South Carolina. The balloon was first seen traveling through Alaska and Canada, as it floated down to the west coast of the United States before crossing the entire nation. According to Ned Price, who is the spokesperson of the State Department, the balloon’s antennae were “likely capable of collecting and geo-locating communications.” Nearly a week later on Friday, February 10th, another object was shot down in waters near Alaska. Little information has been given from the White House, where they claim there is “no indication” of the aircraft belonging to aliens. Then after only two days, NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) shot down yet another unidentified object over Lake Huron, located in Michigan.
At this time the United States has given little information to the public regarding these objects. The White House has been relatively quiet, which has left American citizens and politicians both irritated and annoyed. Living in a country like America, it is believed that the government should do its best to release important information to the public. On the other hand, it can be noted that certain information should be kept private among the White House and Military personnel, as these details could cause harm if made known to the public. However, the dissatisfaction from Americans is understandable as it is frustrating for there to be the uncertainty of unidentified flying objects in our own air space, as well as the spy balloon sent from China. Even General Mike Minihan, who is the head of the Air Mobility Commands, believes America could be at war with China in 2025. After the year 2020 and the long haul of the pandemic that followed, Americans desperately want the nation’s circumstances to be somewhat “normal.” Unfortunately, for many, it feels as if the country is veering in the opposite direction.
