How This Class Helps Me and Is Different from Other Classes:
Workplace Learning Experience Class is unique because it provides guided instruction and on-the-job training that allows you to gain work experience in a professional setting while earning high school credits and making money. This class teaches life skills that benefit any career; for example, I have learned practical skills such as filling out job applications, resume writing, interviewing techniques, and time management. The class also creates an excellent opportunity to determine if this is a career path you want to pursue.
My Typical Day at Campion, Barrow & Associates:
When I arrive at Campion, Barrow & Associates, I check in with the office manager, Grace, to get caught up on the daily agenda. I typically arrive at the office halfway through the work day, so many clients have been seen and psychological tests administered before my arrival. Grace discusses any issues from my work completed the previous day and provides me with a stack of reports to be processed as efficiently yet thoroughly as possible.
I then go to my desk in an office space, which I share with Hope, the executive assistant. Campion, Barrow & Associates provides clinical counseling services, psychological services, and readiness evaluations for the public safety community. My job focuses primarily on entering data from the public safety reports onto the NCAPS website. Each report is typically 15-18 pages and takes about 30 minutes to process.
Upon completing the reports, I go to the server room and scan official documents into the company server. The amount of documents varies from day to day. In addition, I answer incoming calls if other employees cannot do so. I manage the phone call and provide the necessary information depending on the client's needs. If I cannot assist further, I place the call on hold, and Grace finishes the call.
The last thing I do before leaving for the day is check in with my boss to see if any mail needs to be dropped off at the post office or if any deposits need to be dropped off at the bank. My boss also asks me about my day. Something unique (and only I get to do) is get a big hug from my boss because Dr. Campion is my dad! I have been very blessed to have the opportunity to work at our family business and learn many details about Campion, Barrow & Associates' daily operations.
