Life as a Server at Monicals
Most people think being a server is an easy job. But you could not be more wrong. Working in the food industry and doing almost every position at my job, I can firmly say serving is the hardest position at my job.
At Monical's there are 6 main jobs beside being a manager. Oven, Make table, Fronter, Driver, Server, and Dough Maker. I have done 5 out of these jobs and my favorite and main job is being a server.
I love serving, I think my personality fits it perfectly. When you are a server you have to be kind and understanding and be able to put up with a lot of things. Being a server means being personable and very out-going. I love interacting and having conversation with people so being a server is a perfect job for me.
As a server I do many things, and it all depends on the shift you are working but the main thing is you take tables and serve them. When I work a morning shift the first thing I do is start making our salads for the day. This includes dine in individual and family salads and carryout individual and family salads. Its honestly one of my favorite things to do during our open hours I can serve up to 15-20 tables during an 11-8 shift.
The first thing I do when I get sat a table is to introduce myself and ask them if they want to start with some drinks. Then I grab the drinks and head back for an order. At Monical's the servers do a lot more than other places. If someone orders breadsticks or salads the servers put that together and run it to the table. I also check drinks and run pizza and other food out as well.
Serving has taught me a lot about people and the way interactions with people are so important. Being kind and approaching tasks with a positive attitude can really go a long way. I'm so thankful for all the opportunities I've had at Monical's. The past two years have been the best and I greatly enjoyed my workplace learning experience.
