Physical Therapy Intern
This workplace learning class has helped me tremendously. Being in this class has allowed me to shadow the Mahomet Seymour school's physical therapist, Kathryn Rose, with the different things she does. I have been working with the children with whom she does physical therapy at Middle Town Prairie Elementary, Mahomet-Seymour Jr High, and High School.
This course is way different than any other class that I have seen at the High School. This is really the only class that can give you the ability to go and work during the school time for class credit. Not only does this class make it easier to make money during the school year with different sports throughout, but has given many students opportunities that people couldn't experience until they are out of high school.
Everyday at my job is different. I travel through all the school buildings and home visits with Dr. Rose. Here is an example of one of my days: I arrived at MPE Elementary in Mahomet Illinois at about 12:40. This day we worked with two different children. First we worked with one student by helping the student trying to get her hands on her wheels and pushing her wheelchair by herself. A lot of the time she didn't really work with us, but I learned that doing nothing can be better than doing something sometimes in PT. So we sat and waited and she got a lot better at wanting and learning to push her wheelchair(on the top left) a lot better. We traveled to the staircase and had her go up 5 steps trying to work on her walking up and not trying to crawl or scoot down. After that we had her go back to her classroom in her wheelchair working on pushing it again.
Then after we dropped her back off at her Pre-k room we went outside to recess to find another student. She was telling the other teachers how her feet have been hurting and reviewed the braces the wears(bottom right). We watched her do some things at recess like climbing the monkey bars with her friends.
