Hostess
This class allows me to learn new workplace skills that I am able to apply to any job I do and different parts of life. I am also able to explore different career options that I could be interested in!
I believe that this course is different from other courses offered at Mahomet because it creates a pathway into adulting for students.
I start out my work shift clocking in at one of the POS (Point of Order System) stations. After I have clocked in I wash my hands to assure that I am keeping myself and others safe from germs. I then go to the host stand at the front of the restaurant and start writing down the seating arrangement for the evening. Once I have the seating arrangements done I ask my manager which servers are working and assign sections (meaning a certain number of tables in one area) to them, I then let them know I have their sections written and they can come take a look whenever they feel. The manager will start preparing him/herself for the reservations and make sure everything in the restaurant is set and ready. The manager will pass the phone off to me and I will answer phone calls from guests. Typically there is down time between getting the seating arrangements done and the guests come in so I typically try to help set all of the tables.
