LAB ASSISTANT
The Workplace Learning Program has taught me how to handle situations in the workplace using adaptability, professionalism, a positive attitude, and cooperation.
The Workplace Learning Program is different because it has given me the opportunity to gain and learn skills that I can only learn and use outside of high school.
I arrive at work, clock in on the "Time" app. Then see what has to be done. I'm skilled in multiple aspects of my job, therefore everyday is different for me.
Preparing soil sample bags consists of me labeling each bag with either a sticker or if I don't have time to print our a sticker I use a marker. Each bag has the growers name, field number, and the sample number.
Preparing soil samples to go into the drying area consists of one of my coworkers collecting samples from across the nation and returning the samples back to the lab and I cut the bags and put them on the cart and put them in the dryer to be prepared for grinding.
Grinding soil consists of me grinding soil. I start off this task by preparing myself with safety gear such as gloves, glasses, face mask, and noise protection headphones. Then I start grinding the soil with the grinder.
Preparing soil samples to be tested in the lab consists of me putting a very specific amount of soil in the testing tubes by their field numbers then I lay them out for our lab to test.
