Over the summer and fall of the 2024 season, I had the oppurtunity to work for the Parks and Recreation Department for The Villiage of Mahomet. Over this time spent I learned many valuable skills such as mowing, trimming, landscaping, and much more. Below are listed just few, of the many jobs that I had the pleasure of partaking in.
In this picture, you can see the process of cleaning out the trashcans that were in use during soccer, and flag football season.
Here you can see the summer team this year finishing up a mulching job at Mahomet Seymour's Brent Johnson Park.
Illustrated here is the process of cleaning out water in the concession stand of Taylor Fields with a Wet/Dry Shop Vac.
Finally, you can see that last project I took part in which landed at Brent Johnson Park, where we took out dirt and rock, and replaced it with the current mulch sitting on it.
How does this class help me?
My workplace class and internship experience has helped me gain intricate hard and soft skills that I have carried into the real world and workforce in which I am going to apply while taking place in the Local 841 Operator Apprenticeship program.
What does my internship look like?
A day in my job and The village of Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department looks very different day to day. I have mowed and trimmed around the public parks of Mahomet, while also doing an assortment of other things including lining baseball and football fields, overlooking the cleanliness of the shop and vehicles, mulching playgrounds and other objects like trees and posts, landscaping, and much more.
How is a senior internship helping me? How is this Course different from other classes?
My senior internship helped me understand what it takes to be an accomplished worker, while also holding me to a higher standard of what I want for myself and my future. This course is much more different than any other course that this high school, and other high schools offer. This has been one of the most eye opening and learning experiences I have ever had in school. Truly! While sometimes it school may be boring. This class isn't: the things you learn, you will actually use in real life.
