Students will be understanding the difference between additive comparison (some more/how many more) and multiplicative comparison (“4” times more/how many times more) problems and knowing what operation is most appropriate for solving these types of problems. Students continue solving multi-step word problems involving area/perimeter and measurement conversions using four operations with the unknown in various positions during this unit.
Multiplication:
Students are interpreting multiplication equations as a comparison. For example, 6 x 4 = 24
Samuel saved $4. His big sister saved 6 times more than Samuel. How much money has Samuel’s big sister saved?
Elapsed Time:
Read an analog clock, utilize time to determine start and end time of activities throughout the day. For example, it takes 10 minutes to brush your teeth, 15 minutes to shower and get dressed, 10 minutes to eat breakfast, etc. The bus will be here at 8:05 AM, what time do you need to wake up in order to be ready at the bus stop?
Practice scheduling events to determine elapsed time.
Measurement:
Discuss length and weight of objects and how to determine the measurements.
These are vocabulary words that students will be exposed to throughout the unit.
