Unit 3 Overview:
In unit 3, students will begin exploring fractions with denominators of 2,3,4,6, and 8. They will need to partition shapes into equal parts to represent fractions. They will also place these unit fractions on a number line between 0 and 1.
- Students will partition shapes into parts with equal areas and express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole (region models). (G.A.2)
- Students will understand a fraction as a number and that a unit fraction is one part of a whole that is partitioned into ___ (denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8) parts using only bar models and number lines. (NF.A.1)
- Students will represent a unit fraction on a number line diagram by partitioning the number line between 0-1 into equal parts recognizing the total number of equal parts (2, 3, 4, 6 & 8). (NF.A.2a)
