In unit 8, students will begin their work with measuring and estimating lengths in standard units. Students will learn to select and use appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes. They will estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters. Students will also compare different units of length, focusing on non-standard measurement. Finally, they will relate addition and subtraction to length by solving story problems and using a number line to represent whole numbers as lengths from 0 on a number line diagram
*Subtracting Using an Open/Empty Number Line (website: youtube): In this video, subtraction using an open/empty number line is demonstrated.
*Adding on an Open Number Line (website: youtube): Students model using an open number line to add.
