1. Discovery Education: Video

Earth and Moon Cycles – Brief video that describes the relationship between Earth, the moon, and the sun. Includes Earth’s tilted axis, day and night, and phases of the moon.

2. Discovery Education: Image

H-R Diagram – Study the graph shown. What are some things you notice? How is this used for classification of stars? What are some key words that you see on the graph? What do these key words mean?

3. Our Solar System – Brief video over the objects in our solar system.

May 11-15, 2020

Standards Addressed

  • I can describe the theory of plate tectonics.

  • I can describe how plate tectonics causes changes on the surface of the earth (such as mountains, volcanoes, faults, trenches, rift valleys, etc).

Resources Recommended

Have your student login to their Conroe ISD SSO in order to have access to suggested resources.

1. Discovery Education: Video

Plate Tectonics – Brief video that describes the theory of plate tectonics and the various ways that the plates move.

2. Discovery Education: Plate Tectonics Animation – Visual that shows how the plates move.

May 4-8, 2020

Standards Addressed

  • I can describe Newton’s Third Law of Motion.

  • I can recognize Newton’s Third Law of Motion as the Law of Action-Reaction.

Resources Recommended

Have your student login to their Conroe ISD SSO in order to have access to suggested resources.

1. Discovery Education: Newton’s Third Law – Watch the animation video provided. Answer the questions that follow:

· What does Newton’s Third Law of Motion say?

· What is an example of Newton’s Third Law?

· How is this idea of action-reaction used in sending a rocket into space?

2. Let’s Explore: Try pushing against a wall in your house. Push as hard as you can. Does the wall move? Why or why not? Is there a force pushing back? How do you know? Try bouncing a ball against the wall. What happens to the ball?

April 27- May 1, 2020

Standards Addressed

  • I can define force.

  • I can define mass.

  • I can define acceleration.

  • I can describe Newton’s Second Law of Motion.

  • I can recognize Newton’s Second Law of Motion as the Law of Force and Acceleration.

Resources Recommended

1. Let’s Talk: Find an empty laundry basket, hamper, or something similar. Try pushing the basket. Was it hard to do? Why or why not? Now fill the basket with heavy toys or lots of clothes or blankets. How does this change the mass of the basket compared to when it was empty?

Try pushing the basket now. Was it harder to push the basket? Why or why not? If so, what made the difference?

2. NASA: STEMonstrations – Newton’s Second Law of Motion demonstrated in space! Compares objects of different masses and explores the law of force and acceleration.

  • I can describe Newton’s First Law of Motion.

  • I can recognize Newton’s First Law of Motion as the Law of Inertia.

Resources Recommended

Have your student login to their Conroe ISD SSO in order to have access to suggested resources.

1. Let’s Experiment! Use the Google Slides presentation (link below) to experiment with inertia. Discuss the questions about what you see.

Investigating Inertia

2. Newton’s First Law of Motion – Science of NFL Football

Watch the short video. What does inertia have to do with football? What other sports or activities also involve inertia?

Resources Recommended

Have your student login to their Conroe ISD SSO in order to have access to suggested resources.

1. Discovery Education: Brief video describing how forces can change the motion of an object.

Changes in Motion

Getting active! Using a ball (basketball, soccer ball, etc.), place it on the ground. Is it moving? What would need to happen to make the ball move? Play a game with the ball and describe the forces that are acting upon the ball.
