Wants & Needs
Ask your kindergartener to tell you about some things that all people must have to live (needs). Then ask your child to name some items they have that are nice, but not needed to live (wants). Talk to your child about how people earn income to pay for wants and needs.

Income & Gifts
Create a “job jar” for your child. Put slips of paper in the jar - some small jobs (chores) your child could do to earn income, and some with small gifts or treats. As your child pulls a slip from the jar, ask them to explain whether it would be “income” or a “gift” and how they know.
Have your child tell you about a time they earned money for doing a job or chore, and a time they received money as a gift.

These activities will give your kindergartener practice with comparing groups of items and written numbers. For the activity, “Tower Compare”, you can use a dice to come up with numbers. You could also write out numbers from 1-20 on pieces of paper and use as playing cards in order to practice with larger numbers.
