As digital technology continues to transform financial markets, leading Asian countries are leading the global market in digital bond issuance on blockchain and distributed ledger technology. However, a harmonized regulatory framework is essential to ensure the stability and integrity of the market. With this in mind, we are pleased to announce an informative seminar that will address key gaps in the emerging legislation and regulation of domestic securities token markets in Korea.
Tokenized securities are already being developed in Europe to digitize traditional securities, using distributed ledger technology (DLT) to enable the 24/7 transfer of high-quality liquid assets (HQLA), such as government bonds, and trading on a delivery versus delivery (DvD) basis. These innovations reduce excessive collateral and settlement risk for large transactions within existing regulatory frameworks. From this perspective, Asia should leverage its existing securities market infrastructure to develop a digital version of security token issuance and distribution within the ASEAN+3 region.
The purpose of this seminar is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current digital finance landscape, explore best practices and discuss practical steps to build a robust regulatory environment for security tokens in Korea. It will bring together experts and stakeholders from Korea and Japan for a constructive exchange of views. Key topics will include the impact of digital technology on the bond market and green finance, the status of STOs and regulation in Japan, and the potential for the development of a digital STO market in Asia.
The seminar will be a key forum to explore the future of STOs in the ASEAN+3 region, with a particular focus on the role of South Korea and Japan. It aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders to build a well-regulated and vibrant securities token market in Asia, ensuring that the region remains at the forefront of financial innovation.
