Rural School Teacher Talent Commission
Description
The objective of the Rural School Talent Commission is to expose university and college education undergraduates to the rural school experience via practicums, student-teaching, and internships. This opportunity provides future educators hands-on exposure to the rural school experience that they may have otherwise missed. The potential experiences include:
Practicum students will complete practicum experience in a rural district
Student Teachers will complete a 9 or 18 week placement in a rural district
Tracking placement and experiences via survey to determine success of rural district pilot
Experience Expectations:
Small group and individual work
Lead instruction for large group
Recess duty
Attend IEP or other meetings if appropriate
Follow teacher for entire practicum
One student per one teacher
Complete pre and post surveys
Funding Sources
Thanks to State funding there are stipends available for participating students for both the practicum and student teaching experiences. The total amount of the stipends will depend on the State’s budget allocation and the total number of students participating in the program. This is an excellent way to get exposure and recruit young educators to rural school districts.
