The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Awards and Scholarships provide opportunities for educators and students to be recognized for their accomplishments. For the teachers, the recognition is for teaching excellence and innovation. For the students, the recognition is for leadership, citizenship, school and community involvement, and academic achievement. Regional and state competitions provide stages of recognition promoted by CESA 7 through in kind donations of organization and time. The sponsor of the Kohl Teacher and Student Awards is Herb Kohl, former U.S. Senator.
Primary Products and Services
Creation of a representative group of readers throughout the state to evaluate the teacher and student applications using an electronic scoring program.
Equitable processes for evaluating applications to include 3 readings per application
Assigning Teacher applications to the readers for elementary, middle/junior high, high school, and special services
Assigning Student Excellence Scholarship applications to the readers for high school seniors
Informing DPI of the allotted top scores so they can notify each applicant of his or her status related to having the application sent on to the statewide selection committee
Selection of two readers for the State Selection Committee
Notification that public school recipients of Kohl Teacher Fellowships automatically become candidates for the Wisconsin Teacher of the Year

priorities
Perform the duties expected of each CESA regarding receipt of applications
Meet the expectation of creating a team of readers to evaluate the applications using the online scoring system
Coordinate the readings to ensure they are completed in a timely manner and submitted using the online scoring system
Notify the state in a timely manner when all of the applications have been scored
The state will inform applicants of their status related to moving on to the statewide selection committee
Provide at least two readers for the state selection committee
