Being in quarantine, me and my dad get bored really easily; so my mad asked me if I wanted to go turkey hunting. “Hey kid, would you like to go turkey hunting next weekend?” Me being in quarantine for so long I got very excited. “YES! I would love to go. Did you make sure it was ok with Vance?” (Vance is the property owner). “Yes I did Ryan; now make sure you have everything you need to go.” My dad said. “Ok kid. Will do.” I said with content. So it gets to be the weekend that we go hunting and we’re getting packed up. “We got the decoys? We got food, water, the guns? Everything we need?” My dad said. “Yes sir.” I said, confirming. The place that we hunt is in The Dalles; not Dallas Texas. It is about a three hour drive from where we live so you could imagine how you would feel after being in a three hour car ride. That is the usual time to get there. But since quarantine has started, the amount of traffic has gone down so it was about an hour and a half to get there. We had to get somewhere to stay overnight so we rented a hotel room at a place called The Cousins Inn. It is a country themed hotel that has an amazing restaurant breakfast served all day. But it was closed so we had to get take out. We decided that we would get a pizza from Papa Murphys one half pepperoni, one half hawaian. So after 30 minutes we go to pick the pizza up. After that, we go into the hotel room for the first time, and notice the T.V. doesn't work. So we turned in the remote to the front desk. After doing that two times we decided to just ask for a movie and chose Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark. When we finished the movie we went to sleep at around 10:30. When you turkey hunt you have to wake up before they do; That means that you have to wake up an hour before sunrise which was about 4:15 am. That gives you enough time to get to the property, and set up for the place you are going to hunt. So we get everything ready, we are fully dressed up in camouflage (Fun fact: turkeys are one of the only animals that you can legally hunt under the age of 18 with full camouflage only because they can see color). From this point forward, there is not talking because we don’t want them to hear us or for them to see us. So what we do is hand gestures. Fist for female turkey, or any other animal, and peace sign for malr turkey. About 35 minutes before sunrise, we are already set up and ready to go, but it isn't legal shooting hours yet. The legal shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise. We are set up on this giant tree that we thought would be a great place to support or aim and backs. The first thing we hear five minutes after we sit down is turkeys flying down from the tree and gobbling right behind us. It scared the absolute crap out of me. They had pegged us because they had circled around us and had run away. After about 1 hour of sitting at the same spot I see a silent gobbler run in, and I take the shot. It was a little Jake, but since I knew that Those big gobblers weren't coming back to the location we were in. So I took the shot and that is the end of that.
