My favorite book is about hunting. And it taught me how to hunt blacktail deer and learn about them and how they travel through the woods. It also taught me how to hunt them and how to hunt the wind. This last year I got a blacktail deer late season because late season blacktail deer are super lets say drunk in a way because when they see you they don't run they just stare at you until you're gone. When you don't see them they just stare at you also but when it's the beginning of blacktail deer season they will see you and run away from you. The book also taught me how to find them, when the wind is going lets say south there going to be on a hillside to get out of the wind and stay warm. Also they know what's coming from the other side of the hill because the wind is going right to them and they can see what's coming on their side of the hill side so they know they are safe.
Another topic the book taught me about is blacktail deer rub on trees most likely alders because that tree is soft and it is smooth on their horns and they like the feeling of it. When they have velvet on their horns that's when they are growing their horns they rub it off when they are all done growing. They go find an alder or a very small douglas fir tree and rub it off. The book also said to tell what is an Elk rubbing from a Deer rubbing, Elk rub way higher on a tree than deer so deer rub super low because they are smaller than elk. Deer travel by the wind because they want to know what is coming in front of them and also behind them because they want to be safe and know what's around them. In the mornings if the wind is coming from behind the deer the deer is going to go find food from that direction. Where the deer get born they really dont go out of like a 1 mile to a 2 mile radius because that's just what they do unless they get chased by a coyote or a cougar but afterwards they go back around their area. In Oregon the blacktail population has went down from 1987 to 2020 because the cougars just annihilate them. I think we should be able to hunt cougars with dogs again because that is what's going to bring the blacktail population back up.
