Writer's statement: This letter to essential workers is titled “Dear Essential Workers.” I named it this because it isn’t just to one type of essential worker, it is to all of the people that are exposing themselves to Covid-19 in order to get people the things that they need during quarantine. It connects to the pandemic because it talks about the people working during it. I chose this response because it seemed most relevant to me. My inspiration was hearing about workers on ads on tv. I hope my audience will be appreciative of essential workers.
Dear Essential Workers,
A hero, to me, is somebody that does things that are extraordinary or great even when it could hurt them and or cause them harm or to somebody that they care for. Heros are people that have lots of courage. I think that most of the essential workers that are out doing their jobs during covid-19 are heroes. The essential workers that are exposing themselves to the virus are. Especially workers like bus drivers, grocery store cashiers, and people who work at hospitals or EMT’s. There is such a thing as a selfless act. To me, a selfless act is something that a person does even if it sets them back or has a high risk, they would be doing it to help someone else just because they are the type of person to do that. Just like essential workers during covid-19. A type of hero that I have been hearing a lot about recently is grocery store workers. They are working every day to help people get the food and goods that they need to live and make it through this tough time in quarantine being stuck at home. And they are heroes to me because they are at a higher risk of catching the coronavirus than most other essential workers. They are meeting with tons of people every day and touching groceries that a bunch of other people have touched. It makes them heroic because even though they can stay home and not work there to avoid being exposed to corona, they choose to work and help people get the items that they need to live. I think that we should celebrate them because without them, how would any of us be surviving this isolation and quarantine being stuck at home without going to the grocery store to get the things we need? They are everyday heroes that we need and are grateful to have. WIthout them, we wouldn’t be able to stay safe at home during quarantine. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dylan Gore
