Writer's Statement: The title of my speech is “Dreams are Your Possibilities”. I chose to name it that because in my speech I talk a lot about possible things students can dream about. Also, it is a nice motivational name to hook the reader or audience member. My piece connects to the pandemic because it teaches people to dream big. Right know during the pandemic we should think about positive dreams/goals that we want to accomplish to make ourselves feel good inside. I chose to submit this type of response because I personally like teaching other people what are good goals/dreams to go for. In other words, I like motivating people in a positive way to do something awesome in my writing. My inspiration was “talking” because when I talk to people I love teaching things to them. In this case I wrote a make believe “I” speech that I gave to high schooler on what they should dream for. I hope that my audience will get a better understanding of how important it is to goal set and dream big. If you work hard at a dream it will become a reality!
What Should High Schooler’s Dream of? Well, if we take the meaning of dreaming, it means a thought or image a person sees in their mind during their sleep. If we take that and apply it to goals, you, as a student, have thoughts or images that you can do so much more with. The possibilities are endless.
Take for instance, learning how to drive and the dreams and goal around it. Learning how to drive takes a lot of practice and commitment. You have to believe in yourself to be a better driver. Now don’t get me wrong, driving is not easy so make sure you have an adult teach you once you have your permit.
Let’s hear from the crowd! Let me pick...you! What is your name? “My name is Dave and one of my goals in high school is to get a job!” Dave that is a great idea!
In fact, getting a job in high school can introduce you to the next phase of a high schooler’s life. A job offers many opportunities. One example is working as a pizza delivery person. Even though the job isn’t glamorous you are still making money, working together with others, and preparing yourself for other jobs that use similar qualities. These qualities include teamwork, collaborating, and problem solving when an order is not made right, the possibilities for your growth are limitless.
Now it is my turn for an example! I have tried doing things outside of my comfort zone. For example, joining a new class I have never tried or a club that I am interested in. This is important because you will make so many good friendships and have a lot of fun. For instance, when I was in high school I was on the Swim and Javelin Team. I had so much fun meeting new friends and enjoying the competition. To be completely honest, I was very nervous I would not play well or like the coaches. On the contrary, when I joined the Swim Team the complete opposite happened and the same thing went for the Javelin Team. The worry was all in my head. The point being is that worries prevent you from taking risks and you shouldn’t let them get to you. Joining the Swim and Javelin Teams were one of the best decisions I have ever made and created tons of possibilities for my high school sports career. If I had not joined any teams I would have lived in worry all the time. That is no fun! Don’t let worry run your life. “Just do it” (Nike).
To bring it to a close there are no restrictions on what you can dream of; you just have to believe in yourself that you will accomplish them. I hope you learned how to have a better outlook on high school and to dream big. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” Elenor Rosevelt
