Writer's Statement: The title of my Dreams short story is “Pandemic Nightmares." Due to the world pandemic we are currently experiencing, all I have been doing is staying in quarantine and at home. While being at home, I’ve been sleeping a lot more and experiencing more dreams and sometimes nightmares. I chose to submit this type of response because after reading all of them, this Dream Short Story made me interested the most and I wanted to polish it up and make it even better. My inspiration was when I used to listen to scary stories by a Youtuber named Mr. Nightmare. He would always have the most interesting scary stories and I’d enjoyed watching and listening to them every time. I hope the audience will be engaged while reading this short scary story. I hope they will also be entertained and overall find my story interesting.
This story thankfully was just a dream. Well, I would consider it a scary nightmare. It all started on a rainy night in Beaverton, Oregon. I was home alone at my house while my parents were at a party. I enjoy playing video games much more than going to parties so I decided not to go. Me being a 15 year old teenager, I was upstairs in my room playing some good old Minecraft with my friends. I had my headphones on the whole time so if there were to be any noise downstairs, I would’ve not been able to hear it.
However, there was a big knock on my door coming from downstairs that I actually heard clearly. I thought it might’ve been the wind or rain so I ignored it. Then, I heard it again and I became worried. I went downstairs and saw my glass door cracked and opened. Someone must’ve broken into my house. A dark shadowy figure appeared right outside the door and my heart was skipping beats. I had chills running down my spine as the footsteps grew closer. It then started approaching me and that was when I made my move. I quickly turned around and went for the backyard door as fast as I could. I got outside and hopped over my backyard fence. I peeked behind and I was able to take a quick glance at the figure. I was able to see through his mask for a second. That was when I realized that it was a man probably in his mid 40’s. His eyes were wide open and he had a creepy grin on his face. At this point, I didn’t even care if the person in black stole anything from my house. I was more focused on protecting myself and getting help. It was pitch black outside so it was hard to see but my goal was to go to one of my neighbors house for help. I knocked on several doors but none of them answered most likely because they were all sleeping. However, I found one more house and thankfully, a lady opened the door with a concerned look on her face.
“Are you ok dear?” the lady asked.
“A stranger broke into my house!” I sighed trying to catch my breath after all that running.
“That’s horrible, here come on inside, I’ll call the cops right away.”
Luckily, the nice lady made a quick emergency 911 call and they showed up within a few seconds. Right when I heard the sirens, I was so relieved. My house was surrounded by a ton of police cars and they were setting up an investigation. They came out with the man wearing all black in cuffs. At that moment, there was a blur and I woke up to the sound of my alarm. That was when I realized that was just another one of those crazy dreams.
