Why I Protest: Over the past week I have gone to a couple protests to fight for the black lives matter movement. We marched for miles chanting for basic human rights. This was the most heartbreaking yet peaceful experience of my life. Protesting made me realize, growing up I have never been in fear of being killed or losing a loved one by our “heros”. I am privileged because of my skin color. I used and will continue to use that privilege until there's a change in society. We shouldn't have to protest and riot because people of color are still being treated unequally compared to their white counterparts. Everyone deserves the same basic human rights and fairness.
Poem:
The people in the badge always looks like the heros, but behind the uniform they are truly a villian, never have I been in fear of of dying because of the amount of melanin I have, never have I felt neglected due to the shade of my skin, never have I lost a loved one to the hands of the people who are supposed to protect us, privilege should not be based upon skin color, I know my privilege, I will not stop fighting until justice and peace has been served.
