Step 1 – Application
You will need to go to the TX TOPS portal and choose Start Individual Application. You are applying for an Unarmed Registration; type is Alarm Systems Installer. When completing the application, you will need to input the following company information:
Company Business License Number B15964
Date of Hire: date you are submitting the application
Be sure to review all information is correct and all questions have been answered truthfully before proceeding with submitting the application.
Step 2 – Employment Verification & Payment
Once you have submitted your application, it will be sent to Skyline to verify your employment. Once employment has been verified, you will be notified that you can log back in and complete the payment of $65.25.
*If you need fee assistance, be sure notify Compliance and it will be taken from your next check.
Step 3 – Live Scan & Additional Documents
Once payment has been made, you will receive an email on how to set up your live scan appointment. Once your appointment is complete, be sure to send a copy of the receipt to Compliance. Your live scan file will be automatically sent to the state by the agency that does the appointment.
*You are responsible for paying the live scan fee. It should be around $10.
If any additional documents are required by the state to process your application, both you and Skyline will be notified. If you need to, you can upload documents directly through your TOPS account, or you can send those documents to Compliance to have them uploaded for you.
*If you have been a member of the military, you will be required to submit your DD214 Member-4 copy. No other copy can be accepted.
Step 4 – Issuance
Once your registration has been issued, you will receive a pocket card in the mail. Be sure to send a copy of both the front and back of that registration card to Compliance so that we can drop it in your employee file and make sure your information is updated on our end.

Step 1 – Training Requirements
All technicians that are registered as Alarm Systems Installers must obtain the Certified Alarm Technician Level 1 within 12 months of being issued the registration.

Once registered any course materials, if required, will be mailed to you. Be sure to pay close attention through the course as you will be required to pass a proctored exam at the end of the course.
When you received your certification, be sure to email a copy to Compliance.
Step 2 – Application
*You do not need to have the certification in place to submit your renewal application.
You need to log in to your TX TOPS account to begin your renewal application. Once logged in, go to the My Registrations tab and click on the blue action drop down box and click renew.
If you need the Skyline business license number while completing the application, it is B15964.
Step 3 – Employment Verification & Payment.
Once submitted, the application will be sent to Skyline for employment verification. Once that is complete, you will be notified to log back in and complete the renewal payment of $37.
*If you need fee assistance, be sure to notify Compliance and it will be deducted from your next check.

You can begin an employer update by logging into your TX TOPS account. Click on the My Registrations tab and click on the action drop down box and choose add employer.
During the application process, you will need to enter the company business license number which is B15964.
Step 2 – Employment Verification & Payment
Once your application is submitted, it will be sent to Skyline to have your employment verified. When done, you will be notified that you can log back in and complete the update payment of $17.
*If you need fee assistance, be sure to notify Compliance and it will be automatically deducted from your next check.
Once the payment is complete, it will take the state about one week to process the application and have it reflect your new employer online.

**There are two types of registrations for fire licensing:
FAL - Allows you to install residential and commercial
RAL - Only allows you install residential
You will need to complete the following courses based on registration type:
FAL - Certified Alarm Technician Level II including Fire Alarm Technician - $1,200 for all 3 courses
RAL - TX Residential Fire Alarm Online - $365 per course

**Let us know if you are a w-2 employee before signing up for the course.
2. Once you are registered, course materials will be mailed to you. Be sure to pay close attention during the course, as you will be required to pass a proctored test at the end of it, before you are issued the certification.
3. Once you have completed the course and passed the proctored test, you will receive a course certificate. You will need to send a copy of that to compliance@skylinesecurity.com. A copy will also need to be included with your application that is sent to the state

*All technicians installing any type of fire alarms in TX require an additional registration through the TX State Fire Marshal's office.

2. Make sure to choose the registration type you are certified for. Leave the Applicant's employer section blank and we can fill that in for you.
3. Answer all questions honestly and be prepared to send in any court dispositions for any charges disclosed.
4. You will be required to send in a live scan receipt with your application. You can schedule your live scan through the IdentoGo website. You can also schedule an appointment over the phone by calling (888)467-2080. If asked, your service code is 11H3FV. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!!
5. There is a fee required to be sent in with the application:
FAL: $120 check or money order payable to: TX Department of Insurance
RAL: $50 check or money order payable to: TX Department of Insurance

Q: Who is required to obtain a license/registration?
A: Only technicians are required to obtain the alarm or fire licensing.
Q: How long does a new application take to process?
A: A new Alarm Technician application takes 48 hours to process. A fire license can take between 2 - 4 weeks for processing.
Q: Once issued, how long is the license good for?
A: Both licenses are good for two years from issuance.
Q: How long does a renewal application take to process?
A: The Alarm Technician license takes 48 hours to renew. The fire license takes 2 - 4 weeks for a renewal.
Q: How early can I renew?
A: For both licenses, you can renew up to 6 months prior to your expiration date.
Q: Do I need to switch my registration from one company to another?
A: Yes, for both your Alarm Technician license and your Fire license, you will need to complete a company update.
Q: I have lost my registration/license, how can I get another?
A: For your alarm license, you can request an duplicate through the TOPS account. For your Fire license, you can request that from the State Fire Marshals Office.
