Step 1 – Live Scan
You are required to obtain a live scan to work in the state of Tennessee.
If you live in TN:
Go to IdentoGo/TN and click on Schedule a New Appointment
On the next page, click on the Don’t know your Service Code button.
For Agency Name choose Department of Commerce and Insurance, then hit Go
For Applicant Type choose Alarm Systems Contractor Applicant, then hit Go
You will need to check the I Agree box on the next page, then hit Go.
You will be prompted to enter your zip code to determine your closest fingerprinting location
On the next page, choose a location and day and time that is good for you.
The next page, you will be required to complete the online registration form.
You are required to pay for your own live scan, so when prompted, be sure to complete payment.
Print your confirmation page and take it with you to your appointment.
At your appointment you will be given a receipt that needs to be uploaded online during the application process so SAVE YOUR RECEIPT! Also be sure to send a copy of your receipt to Compliance.
You can also schedule an appointment over the phone by calling (855)226-2937. They are available Monday – Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM Central Time.
If you are unable to attend a live scan appointment or are located outside of TN, you can obtain two fingerprint cards and have them converted into an electronic card.
Go to IdentoGo/TN and click on Register for Fingerprint Card Processing Services
When prompted for the Service Code, choose the Don’t know your Service Code button.
For Agency Name choose Department of Commerce and Insurance, then hit Go
For Applicant Type choose Alarm Systems Contractor Applicant, then hit Go
You will need to check the I Agree box on the next page, then hit Go.
The next page, you will be required to complete the online registration form.
You are required to pay for your own fingerprint processing service, so when prompted, be sure to complete payment.
You will be supplied a pre-enrollment confirmation page which you will need to print, sign and send with your completed fingerprint cards.
The fingerprint cards and pre-enrollment confirmation page need to be mailed to:

Step 2 – Application Process
*The state has video tutorial links on their portal page in the bottom right corner.
The application is done online and can be started by going to the TN Portal.
Click on the Register New Account link under New User. This will allow you to create your profile for the TN portal and choose login information. (Be sure to save this information as you will need it to renew when it is time.)
Once logged into your account, you will be able to start a new application.
*When choosing the application type to submit, you will want to make sure you choose the following:
Board: Alarm Contractors
Type: Initial Registered Employee
During the application process you will need to provide the following information:
Company License #: 1816
Job Titles/Duties: Door to door sales of home security systems OR installation of home security systems
Date of Employment: PLEASE PUT THE DATE YOU COMPLETE THE APPLICATION AND NOT WHEN YOU STARTED WITH SKYLINE.
Designated Qualifier: Michael Perdue
Step 3 – Additional Requirements
During the application process you will be required to upload the following additional requirements:
Live Scan Receipt
Photo ID
2” x 2” Passport photo – recent, no hats or sunglasses
Court docs – if you answered yes to any background questions, you will be required to upload copies of any dispositions for charges you are disclosing.
Training Course:
The state has a requirement that each employee is required to obtain relevant training within one year of obtaining their registration.
Sales - Security Sales Essentials OR Certified Alarm Technician Level 1
Techs - Certified Alarm Technician Level 1

Step 4 - Fee & Submit
Application fee is $100 and payable online when you submit the application.
*If you need fee assistance, be sure to reach out to Compliance.
It will take the state one month to process and issue your registration, unless additional documents are requested by the state. IF you do not turn in any requested documents, your registration will be denied.
Once your registration has been issued, we will receive it at our Downey office. We will save a copy to your employee file, then confirm your current mailing address to have it forwarded to you.

4. Once done, you can submit and pay for the renewal, which is $50.

5. Once submitted and paid for, it will take the state about 1 month to process the renewal. We will get your license in the mail and reach out to forward it to you when received.

Once you have been inactive for more than 30 days with Skyline, I am required to submit your termination form. You will be notified via email before we send the form in. If you are a summer employee and wish to come back the next year, be sure to let us know so that we can keep you on the employee roster.

Q: Who is required to obtain a license/registration?
A: Both Salespersons and Technicians are required to obtain an Alarm Employee registration.
Q: How long does a new application take to process?
A: A new application can take anywhere from 4 - 12 weeks to process depending on requested documents.
Q: Once issued, how long is the license good for?
A: Once issued, the registration is good for two years.
Q: How long does a renewal application take to process?
A: A renewal application will take one month to process as long as no additional documents are requested.
Q: How early can I renew?
A: You can renew up to six months prior to your expiration.
Q: Do I need to switch my registration from one company to another?
A: Yes, you will need to complete a company transfer when moving to a new company.
Q: I have lost my registration/license, how can I get another?
A: You can request a duplicate copy of your registration through the state online portal.
