The Orange Lions defeat Chagrin for the 2nd time in 3 years!

The Orange Lions came into Friday's game with one thing on their mind: To play more physical football than the Chagrin Tigers. There was no mistaking that The Lions "out-physicaled" their opponent, taking the will out of them early.

On the opening drive, Chagrin seemed to be moving the ball fairly well against The Lion defense. But the defense bent, they did not break. When Chagrin dropped back to pass to what seemed to be a wide open tight end over the middle, Senior MLB Pablo Garcia snagged the ball out of the air for an interception. The interception deflated The Tigers, and their offense would be stymied for the rest of the first half besides a 1st quarter touchdown.

The Orange Lion offense took complete control in the 2nd quarter, scoring 24 unanswered points. The Lions got on the board when Junior QB Sean Borgman ran for a 4 yard touchdown. Borgman would then connect twice in the air for touchdowns with Sophomore WR Marvin Davies (70 yards) and Senior Pablo Garcia (31 yards). To top off the first half, The Lions capitalized on a Chagrin fumble when Senior K Chase Weiss booted a 37 yard field goal through the uprights that may have been good from 45 yards!

The second half was about grinding the game out and finishing. The Orange Lions did just that. Accompanied by 134 yards on the ground by Senior RB Jake Sonkin, The Lions would continue to pound the football and play defense. On the last play of the game, down by 8 points, Chagrin threw a pass to the end-zone that would ultimately be intercepted by Senior FS Joey Fekete, giving The Orange Lions their 2nd win over their cross-town rival in 3 years.

Looking to continue their quest for a CVC Championship, The Orange Lions (5-1, 2-0) will host the Blue Devils of Wickliffe (3-2, 0-2) this Thursday night at 7pm in The Lions Den. The Orange vs. Wickliffe game always proves to be a great showdown of two physical and disciplined teams. Please come out and support your Lions this Thursday evening!
