Lions Cool in the Heat

The Lions outlasted the heat, and the Bison, in a rival game Saturday at Beachwood, winning 28-17. As temperatures soared into the upper 90s, things heated up on the gridiron with back and forth scoring. Chad Sonkin scored first for the Lions on a 24 yard touchdown pass from Dominic Vitali. After a Beachwood touchdown, Orange answered back when Marcus Henderson punched it in from 9 yards out, after Peter Shapiro set him up with a 91 yard kickoff return. Beachwood finished a wild first half with another touchdown and took a 17-14 lead into halftime. After a scoreless, shortened 3rd quarter, the Lions finally found pay dirt again with 1:22 left in the game, when Vitali connected with Julian Turner for the game winning 42 yard touchdown pass. Turner sealed the game by recovering a Beachwood fumble on the next series. Just for good measure, Henderson broke through the line and went 75 yards on the first play from scrimmage after the turnover. Solid defensive performances were turned in by Josiah Rogers (8 tackles 1.5 TFL), Trae Williams (7 tackles, 0.5 TFL), James Malcolm (5 tackles, 1 TFL) and Hunter Auletta (1 sack, 1 TFL).

The Lions play their first home game of the year when they take on Kirtland, Friday, September 9th at 7pm.

GO LIONS!!!
