The Orange Lions win their season opener in dramatic fashion!

Post date: Aug 30, 2016 2:27:45 PM

In what was a back and forth defensive battle, The Orange Lions prevailed in the end over The John Hay Hornets to start the 2016 season 1-0. John Hay came out and scored 2 early touchdowns. Their first was set up by a long 3rd down conversion, and the second (and last touchdown) was scored on 4th and 25 from Orange's 30 yard line.

When the Orange Lions finally stuck it in the end-zone with a quarterback sneak by Senior QB Palmer Hanley, The Orange Lions made the score 7-14 at the half. The Lions made adjustments in the locker room and their defense forced several "3 and outs" in a scoreless second half, which gave the offense much momentum. Orange tied the game when Senior RB Randy Crosby scored from 10 yards away.

John Hay was stifled again by The Lion Defense late in the 4th quarter, and they once again had to punt. When it seemed the game would be heading into overtime, Palmer Hanley connected to Senior WR Darrian White for a 50 yard touchdown with just 27 seconds left on the clock. By this time, it was too late for the Hornets to make a comeback. On the last play of the game, Junior CB Nick Garafoli intercepted a pass and ended the game in dramatic fashion.

The Orange Lions started the season on the right track with a win. They take their 1-0 record into week 2 where they will face 1-0 Warrensville Heights this Friday night. Kick off is set for 7pm at Warrensville Heights. Come out and support The Lions as they look to improve to 2-0 in what looks like will be another showdown! See you there!
