The Lions come up short against Perry in CVC Showdown

One thing was evident this past Friday night; The Orange Lions were not backing down from state powerhouse Perry. The Lions displayed their skill in many facets of the game Friday where in some cases Perry had no answers. But in the end, The Orange Lions made a few more mistakes that led to their first loss in conference play this season.

The first half was a back and forth battle where at times it looked like The Orange offense could not be stopped and the Perry offense was stymied by The Orange Lion defensive attack. Senior RB Jake Sonkin opened up the game with an 86 yard touchdown run. He would score again when he caught a 28 yard touchdown strike from Junior QB Sean Borgman. As Perry would remain in striking distance, The Orange Lion defense rose to the occasion again when Senior CB Nick Garofoli would intercept a ball and take it 71 yards for a touchdown. This put The Lions up what seemed like before halftime; but as Perry forced a turnover with 35 seconds left, they would capitalize and score the go ahead touchdown as they entered halftime with a score of Perry 34 and Orange 28.

The second half was a different story, both defenses tightened down. Perry did not allow a touchdown in the second half, and The Lions gave up only 6 points off of a fumble by their offense.

The Orange Lions (6-2, 4-1) proved that they are now battle tested and can play with some of the best in the state. They look to rebound next week against a struggle Geneva team (2-6, 2-3) on the road at the Spire Sports Complex. Still, many goals are still in-tact for The Lions as they focus on only what they have control over. Come out and support your Lions Friday night at 7pm! Go Lions!
