Lions Fight Back Pirates

The Lions opened CVC play Friday night with 9-6 win over the visiting Perry Pirates. This marks the first time that Orange has ever beaten the Pirates. A swarming defense forced Perry to their own end zone, and an intentional grounding penalty for a safety put the Lions up 2-0. That's the way it would stay until the third quarter with both teams getting strong play out of their defenses. Midway through the third quarter, the Pirates found pay dirt, but the 2-pt conversion failed, giving Perry a 6-2 lead. The Lions answered on the next drive when Josiah Rogers connected with Chad Sonkin for a 16 yard pass over the middle, and Will Carter jumped on the ensuing fumble. Three plays later, Rogers hit Julian Turner for a 37 yard touchdown! That made it 9-6, and that is how it would stay. Rogers also played outstanding on defense leading the team with 15 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss and a 0.5 sack. Hunter Auletta and Trae Williams were also big influences pressuring the quarterback and making 10 and 7 tackles respectively. James Malcolm and Chad Ingber added to the defensive effort with Malcolm contributing 12 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, 3 tackles for loss, and Ingber adding 9 tackles, including 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Next week is Homecoming for the Lions as they take on CVC foe Aurora. Hope to see everybody there!

GO LIONS!!!
