The Lions worked hard in the weight room this Spring. The weeks before final exams allow the men to test themselves and compete with each other to see just how hard they have worked. First up, was the third Ironman testing of the lifting season. Stephen Borgman earned his first Ironman distinction, as he joins teammates Chris Von Hendrix, Daeshawn Henderson, Michael Henderson, and Maurice Frazier as Ironmen from the 2013 Lions Football Team.

Next, was the Lion King competition. This is Coach Bechlem's creation that takes into account age and body weight to crown one champion, whose name goes up on the weight room wall. The competition consists of 8 lifts over two days, some weighted and some not. For each lift, competitors work for 30 second bursts with different amounts of weights and resistance. Rising Junior Chris Von Hendrix won the competition with the all-time second-best performance. Rising Senior Daeshawn Henderson, who had an opportunity to become the first repeat winner, finished 2nd with a total that would have won in previous years. Congratulations to all the athletes who worked hard and showed a ton of a improvement from last year!

These last 2 competitions led into 2 days of minicamp held at OHS on the Wednesday and Thursday after final exams. It was an exciting 2 days as the 2013 Lions took the field for the first time in helmets to work on skills and basic offensive and defensive schemes. 3 more days of practice and camps are on the schedule for this coming week before summer lifting commences.
