AI in workplace communication
From the recent survey about the use of AI and robots, we found out that they have gained much popularity in the workplace. We can easily see them in business, from the simple calculator to the ATMs in the street every day. It is acknowledged and can be predicted that in the coming century, it will become a robotic world. However, is it only beneficial to our world? In the light of this, it is worthwhile to compare the positives and negatives that AI and robots bring to the workplace.
Many advocates suggest many reasons and the most significant one is that repetitive jobs are monotonous in the workplace. These jobs can be carried out with the help of machines. These machines can think faster than humans and can be set to do multiple tasks simultaneously. For instance, they can do maths accurately and at the moment, they can perform the job of auditors. They will complete their work more efficiently without any errors.
Many critics, however, argue the usage of AI will generate lots of social problems in both the public and workplace. First, AI will take up many jobs. This is the primary concern for technocrats so far. It is quite possible that AI will displace many low-skilled labourers. As machines can work 24 hours with no break, employers may prefer investing in machines to humans. As we are moving toward the automatic world, where almost every task can be done by machines, there is a possibility of large-scale unemployment. A real-time example of this is the concept of driverless cars. If the concept of driverless cars kick in, millions of drivers will be unemployed in the future.
Lastly, AI in workplace will affect the dependency of humans on machines. With the increasing dependence of humans on machines , we are heading into a time where it becomes difficult for humans to work without the assistance of machines, like producing daily commodities or even using software to analyse a bunch of data. We have seen it and there is no doubt we will continue seeing it in the future. As a result, the mental development of human beings will be actually affected over time.
In short, the use of AI has its merits through providing better, stable and punctual labour for the companies. However, there is an element of uncertainty regarding unemployment rate and the dependence on machines. There are both merits and drawbacks but how do we balance and take the advantage of it would be a tough decision for us.
