You are working for the SPCA as a part-time volunteer. Your supervisor has asked you to prepare a speech to deliver to animal lovers. In your speech, you should explain to your audience why they should adopt a pet from the SPCA instead of buying from pet shops if they want to keep a pet.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! I’m a part-time volunteer working for the SPCA. I’m glad to be here to have a speech with you all. Today I would like to persuade you why it is better to adopt pets from the SPCA instead of buying one from pet shops if you want to keep a pet. To start with, let me tell you the reasons why adopting a pet from the SPCA is much more beneficial.
First and foremost, the reasons to adopt pets from the SPCA is to help stop pet overpopulation. There are too many animals but now enough homes for them. The SPCA has been facing a pet overpopulation problem for the last few decades. Some animals are found wandering as strays, and some are surrendered by their owners who cannot or no longer want to take care of them. To help alleviate the problem of pet overpopulation, it’s important to have your pet sterilized, which is the only permanent, 100 percent effective measure of birth control. In the SPCA, spraying or neutering is mandatory for all adopted cats and dogs. This ensures the animals placed in the community don’t contribute to pet overpopulation.
Secondly, the reason to adopt pets from the SPCA is adoption can save lives. The SPCA is overcrowded. Adoption will not only save the life of the pet you adopt, but also will make room and free up precious resources for other animals. That the SPCA will take in. Adopting an animal from the SPCA is the best way to help the SPCA continue its work. The SPCA doesn’t mean only house animals temporarily, but also help more animals in need. The SPCA aims to find loving adoptive homes for the animals they take in.
There are numerous reasons for not buying pets from pet shops. First of all, it is the problem of bad health. So many pet shops have their pets come from puppy mills. They are not the offspring of careful natural breeding. And they are usually not well treated before they are sent to pet shops. Some common illnesses and conditions are neurological problems, eye problems, hip dysplasia, blood disorders and Canine Parvovirus.
Apart from these, there is a lack of information. A lot of pet shops staff members are not experts in animals in general. Purchasing a puppy from a pet shop means you will not get the lowdown on that breed or it is more likely that the puppy may have behavioral problems.
Thirdly, the pets sold are of poor value. A pet from a pet shop generally costs about $10 000. This is often more than you should pay at reputable breeders who can ensure you can get a healthy pet and provide support afterwards.
So, you have known more about the fate of the abandoned pets. What is your decision when you want to keep a pet? Buying a pet from pet shops or adopting one from the SPCA? Yet the most important is to be a responsible pet owner and make a right choice now. Thanks for your patience and listening!
