The Reading Club at your school is planning to hold a reading week to promote students’ interest in reading to improve their English. One planned event is a ‘Meet the Author’ evening, when students get to meet a famous author.
As the chairperson of the Club, you have been asked to choose one author to invite for the event. Write an email to Ms. Li, the English teacher in charge of the Reading Club, mentioning your choice of author. Explain why you have selected that author, and suggest activities the author can lead or help with.
Dear Ms. Li,
Thanks for your email asking about which author would be better for the event. My choice is J.K. Rowling. I am going to tell you why I would like to invite her and what activities the author can lead or help with.
First of all, J.K. Rowling is a famous writer. Most of our schoolmates and teachers know who she was. Harry Potter is the bestseller of books around the world. It is believed that many schoolmates may want to know more about this book, such as why Harry Potter’s parents died in the beginning or how J.K. could create the amazing or magical world.
Second, J.K. Rowling used simple English in writing Harry Potter, so it is suitable for children. Most of us already read Harry Potter when we were children. J.K. can recall our memory of our childhood. I believe JK will be more popular.
Third, I suggest holding a sharing session which Rowling can easily lead or help with. The sharing session can let JK share about her story with us. JK can tell us how she would be so successful.
I hope you can consider my suggestions. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email.
Yours sincerely,
Chris Wong
