Welcome back, Band Family!
We have started the new school year with lots of new and returning interest. Congratulations to our new musicians who are already making progress!
Once again, the schedule has made it impossible for most students to schedule band. We will return to SCORE Band this year. All band members should have instruments and be prepared to play on TUESDAYS during 5a. We will also schedule a couple of Thursday Evening rehearsals as we get closer to the concerts.
It's a big trip year! I hope all of you are planning to go on the Nashville trip, April 8-12. If you haven't already signed up, please use this link.
As always, please use the calendar on this site to see what's happening. Save these dates:
Winter Concert: December 10
Spring Concert, Large Ensemble (Concert Band): May 14
Spring Concert, Small Ensemble (Jazz Band): May 5
Are you thinking of auditioning for an honors band this year? Why are Honors Bands good for you and our district? Our school district participates in both the Olympic Honors Band and the South Jersey Honors Band, as well as NJAJE for Jazz.
Auditioning for an honors band pushes students to prepare more challenging music, develop advanced techniques, and strengthen their musicianship. Even the process of preparing the audition helps students improve tone, intonation, and expression.
Having an audition goal gives students something to work toward beyond their regular rehearsals. It teaches discipline, perseverance, and how to manage performance nerves—skills that transfer to all areas of life.
In an honors ensemble, students get to rehearse and perform with top musicians from other schools under the direction of outstanding guest conductors. This experience broadens their musical perspective and often reignites their excitement for playing.
Honors band events bring together students who share a passion for music. Many develop friendships that last beyond the weekend and connections that continue into college music programs or careers.
Being selected for an honors group is a major accomplishment. It builds self-confidence and helps students recognize the rewards of hard work and dedication.
Participation in honors ensembles looks great on college applications—whether or not a student plans to major in music. It shows commitment, teamwork, and excellence in the arts.
Perhaps most importantly, playing in an honors band is simply . Students get to perform challenging and inspiring repertoire with others who care deeply about music—an experience that can remind them why they fell in love with playing in the first place.
