March 2019
Hi returning Marching Band families,
It's GO TIME!! The 2019 season officially starts in just 10 days for all Percussion and Color Guard! I am emailing to send the list of those dates and to talk about recruitment - these next coming weeks are big for getting new members, especially this week. A list of those clinic dates are attached, as well as the summer rehearsal schedule that was sent out last fall.
March/April Percussion and Color Guard Clinics
The purpose of these early season clinics is to allow both new and returning members of the Drumline, Front Ensemble and Color Guard who do not typically have the ability to practice their instruments/skills in the off season a chance to acquaint their abilities and lay a strong foundation to get a head start on the coming season. These clinics are absolutely imperative for recruitment as they allow new members a chance to enter the activity comfortably with a chance to begin practicing their skills at the same time as everyone else in their sections. Both the Percussion and Color Guard clinics are designed to start from the very beginning of the skill sets required for each section.
If you, or a prospective member, are not able to attend one or more clinics, don't panic! Definitely get to as many as you are able to, but do not let missing these because of scheduling conflicts be a reason not to join.
Percussion - the final clinic date in April (4/25) will be when the Battery and Front Ensemble instrumentation is set. You will receive more information about that process at the first clinic.

Recruitment Strategies
As always, our foundation of recruitment is that no experience is required to join any section of Marching Band. Nobody has ever truly marched with a bass drum or thrown a flag toss before joining - this activity is where they learn to do that! Returning members, it is your job to talk to anyone and everyone you know about coming out to these clinics and early rehearsals. Percussion and Color Guard are ideal for those who have not been involved in music, were previously involved with a sport, like to dance, act, etc. In the coming weeks you will begin to see many advertisements around school for these clinic dates, Membership Information Night, and more. Take pride in your activity and help it to grow (Hornline - even you are able to recruit for Percussion and Guard!).
Coming Up
Soon, I will be releasing information for the May/June dates (Hornline included), leadership clinics, Membership Information Night, and the one and only, the beloved, the woolly mammoth fall schedule. Additionally, parents - coming within the next couple of weeks, you will receive information about Booster Board elections. Three out of four positions on the board (President, Vice President, Secretary) will be up for reelection. Consider running for election to be a part of the organization that keeps our instrumental music program strong!
