August 2020 Update #4 - 8/26/2020

Our online sectional scheduled for this Thursday, 8/27, has been cancelled. We will resume online rehearsals next Thursday, 9/3/2020 at 6 PM, and rehearsals will continue each Thursday at 6 through the end of September.

Due to the situation with school going 100% virtual through mid-October, Mr. Ludlam made the decision for marching band to also stay virtual in the fall to make sure all our members stay safe and healthy. Our goal is to work towards creating a virtual band video performance of "Jupiter" at the end of September. We will have a click track and instructions for practicing/recording your video soon. Students who had previously dropped out for safety reasons are welcome to rejoin band be part of this project! If we are able to have face-to-face school later in the year, we may work towards some type of in-person performance in the spring.

Please focus your home practice towards learning your part for "Jupiter" to prepare for the project and continue to complete online assignments so that we can make our finished video the best it can be! Color guard, Cole will have work for you to learn soon. If there are any color guard or percussion students who still need to get equipment, please contact Mrs. Nowmos to make arrangements for pickup.

We will still be having a band t-shirt printed for this fall, and our t-shirt design contest is underway! Designs should relate to our show theme, but feel free to be creative. Designs may be hand-drawn or done with computer graphics, but simple black-and-white line drawings will work the best for printing. If you are interested in submitting an entry, please email or share a jpg photo of your design with Mrs. Nowmos at nowmos.c@woodstown.org by midnight on 9/6/2020. Staff will then vote on the winning design. Good luck and let Mrs. Nowmos if you have any questions.

We also will continue our tradition of having professional band photos taken so that families can have a keepsake of the season. We want to get your opinion on how we should handle the photos due to this year's unusual situation. Please complete this photo survey before Sept. 1 indicating which option you prefer, and we will let you know from the responses how we will proceed with scheduling a photography session.

A reminder that our online spirit apparel store is still open! Please visit the website to purchase personalized embroidered band jackets, hoodies, sweatpants, and more, to show your band spirit! The store will be open through Sept. 15, and we will make arrangements for an order pickup once the apparel is ready.

Our SaveAround coupon book fundraiser is still ongoing and will run through 9/23/2020. If you haven't created an online selling page yet, it's not too late! Follow the link/instructions under Order Books Online in the information letter to register as a seller, and then share your link with family/friends or share on social media. Book orders will be shipped directly to the customer (please note that there was a delay in printing the South Jersey books; orders will be shipped when the books are ready). For each book sold, you will receive $12.50 towards your band account!

ETA: We will be continuing our band incentive points contest through the end of September! The color guard section took the lead this past week, with brass in close 2nd and front ensemble in 3rd place. Students in the winning section will each receive a free band hoodie (we will have prizes for the runners up as well). Earn points for your section by attending rehearsal/completing the attendance form and completing assignments. If you send Mrs. Nowmos a screenshot or link of your personal fundraising page for the coupon book sale, you can earn bonus points for your section!

August 2020 Update #3 - 8/18/2020

A reminder about equipment pickup: If you need to pick up flags or percussion equipment, this has been rescheduled for this Thursday, Aug. 20 at 12 PM at the WHS football stadium.

For your assignment this week, please review all music/materials previously assigned. Color guard should continue to listen to the show music and review marching skills. Also, to earn "extra credit" points for your section, you can set up your own sales page for the SaveAround coupon book fundraiser. Follow the link and instructions for Online Sales in this letter to set up your personal page, and send a screenshot of your page with your name to Mrs. Nowmos at nowmos.c@woodstown.org or through Google Classroom. (And make sure to share the link with family/friends and on social media!) Participating in the fundraiser is optional, but it is an easy way to earn money for your band trip account,.

We are launching our virtual SaveAround coupon book fundraiser today! Please read the instructions under "Order Books Online" in this information letter to register as a seller and set up your own individual fundraising page to get credit for the books you sell. Share the link for your fundraising page with family and friends, and you can have the books shipped directly to your customers! There are books available not only for the South Jersey region but also several other areas around the country. The sale will run through September 23, and students will earn $12.50 for each book sold towards their individual band accounts to be used towards future trips. You will receive a free book for every 5 books you sell! We will have a limited number of sample books available if you would like to have one of the actual books to sell; please contact Mrs. Nowmos if you would like a copy of the book (they have not been shipped yet, but we can reserve one for you).

August 2020 Update #1 - 8/5/2020

Hello, everyone! We have an important update to our band schedule: we will NOT be holding in-person rehearsals until September. We will continue with our weekly Thursday evening virtual Google Meet sectionals until further notice. Students who had previously dropped out of band for health/safety reasons are welcome to rejoin our virtual rehearsals! We are hoping to be able to start in-person rehearsals Sept. 2, and we are still planning on preparing for the field show and participating in virtual TOB competitions as long as school is in session. We apologize for the last-minute nature of this announcement; please contact Mr. Ludlam at ludlam.j@woodstown.org with any questions.

However, although we will not be holding an in-person rehearsal tomorrow, we would like to give students who need to use school equipment (such as flags or drums/percussion) the opportunity to pick up these items so that they can practice with the equipment at home and work on skills in more depth. If you would like to pick up equipment, staff will be available at the HS football stadium (entrance is on East Millbrooke Avenue) at 2:30 PM tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 6). Please make sure to wear a mask and maintain social distance. If you are unable to come tomorrow but need equipment, please contact Mrs. Nowmos at nowmos.c@woodstown.org to make other arrangements.
