There are many qualities that help build successful leaders. Marching band is a unique combination of music and athletics. Along with excellent musicianship and coordination, there is a social aspect as well. Members spend many hours together preparing so great leaders are also great friends and peers.

Our Leadership Auditions will look at many different skills as we try to find the best students to lead our ensemble. We will select at least one DRUM MAJOR as well as SECTION LEADERS. We may add positions as we find leaders with strengths that we want to capitalize on.
A leadershi interest meetiing was held March 27, 2025. Please submit your application before that time. You can start work on your essay and finding a band member who will agree to write you a letter of recommendation.
Auditions will be on April 24, 2025, at 7pm. Auditions will consist of:
Marching skills demonstration
Box drill
visual idea
Conducting test
4/4 (I Can See For Miles)
6/8 (Home and the Heartland)
Playing test/guardwork (16 bars of choreo) - Hail to the Varsity
(Battery will sight read for this part of the audition)
Staff Evaluation (same Rubric)
Interview (3 questions)
Essay/personal narrative "How I can Be an Effective Leader" - due 5/30 11:59 PM, sheridan.s@woodstown.org

How to ask for a letter of recommendation:
Ask in person first
Prepare a formal letter and include:
Information on the position or role you’re applying for
Details about how and when the letter should be submitted
An updated resume or brag sheet
A pre-addressed, stamped envelope (for letters that need to be sent by mail)
A sample letter (if requested) Template you can use
Follow-up before the due date
Say thank you in a meaningful way
Presentation of a service project idea.
