Variations is a gathering of all the short exhibitions in The Carbone Variations series. The collection remains incomplete, as a new short exhibition will be added each month, continuing indefinitely.

For its inauguration, Variations presents 17 Carbone Variations.

The idea of bringing all the variations together in one place had been on my mind for months. Mareea, the owner of IMAGO Art Gallery, generously offered me the space to make it happen. I extend my warmest thanks to her.

THE CARBONE VARIATIONS

The Carbone Variations are short exhibitions featuring four or five paintings. Each month, during the first week, a new exhibition is unveiled, centered around a specific theme.

VARIATIONS

In the Variations exhibition, the short exhibitions are displayed within the same bunker setting. The bunkers are stacked, and the exhibitions appear without chronological order. Visitors navigate the space much like the astronaut in Interstellar, moving through a black hole, drifting across time in his daughter's room.

Certain calculations suggest that within a black hole, space and time are reversed: a conscious being could move back and forth in time but would remain fixed in space. In a way, this is what I have done—though in a certain disorder.

Each bunker has been customized: wall colors carefully chosen to complement the artworks, sometimes a unique flooring material, different pieces of furniture.

For now, the exhibition spans up to 24 months—two years of Carbone Variations. It can be extended in increments of 8 months.

VARIATIONS – THE SHORT BALLET

For the inauguration of the exhibition, I have composed a ballet structured around five musical pieces, each approximately four minutes long, distinguished by their repetition. It will be performed by Lalitha Carbone, my alt.

The selected pieces traverse different eras:

The choreography is simple and fluid, accompanied by projected landscapes—visions inspired by the melodies, themes, or lyrics of these musical works.
