IDIOCRACY

IdiocraCy constitute a single work of four pictures, four laments—animals, everyday folk sewn with contraptions. This tableau is my realm, a world adrift from debate, from community’s embrace.

De-bate, after all, is to exchange disagreements without beating each other. It demands curiosity, reading, looking up and beyond, transcending one’s horizon, self-critique, tolerance, nuance, and patient pondering. Who still does that?

‘Idiocracy’ is the title of a 2006 film I discovered last year. It’s a B-movie, rather grotesque. Yet its title flickers in my mind as a red alert, with each flick of the television, each scroll through social commentaries, each billboard glance, each neighborly chat. Solutions elude me; I hope to be mistaken, reluctant to dwell further.
