THE SCALE OF LOVE
"The Scale of Love" is a new installation of the former "Nine Levels Of Love" exhibition showed at Noir Wen City during autumn 2020. The exhibition presents nine states of love as expressed in ancient Greek, from fusional love "pothos" to universal love "agape". Love is a life force that connects us to spirituality. This is why the paintings are installed in a setting evoking antique temples, Christian cathedrals or Buddhist symbols.
EXHIBITION SHOWED IN DECEMBER 2020 AND A SECOND TIME IN 2022
In the jumble of our feelings, Jean-Yves Leloup, a non-conformist Orthodox priest, distinguishes the love of the baby, which "eats" its mother, from eroticism, which gives wings to greed. It is sublimated into philanthropy and, later, into unconditional giving: the Agape.
Jean-Yves Leloup says : "Philosophers traditionally distinguish a whole scale of states that go from pathos, the passionate love that enchains you, to agape, the unconditional love that asks for nothing in exchange.
Personally, I tend to think that these are different degrees of the same life force which, as it rises, takes on different faces, but always obeying the same law: you become what you love. If you love money, you become venality. If you love God, you elevate your soul. There are loves that elevate, others that demean."
