The works exhibited by Melusina Parkin are emblematic of her work in Second Life : photographs that are mostly landscapes and abstract shapes, in minimalist style. Milena Carbone’s texts are created using automatic writing, a surrealist technique. They are initially extracted from independent stories, sometimes autobiographical, often imaginary. Subsequently, they are reworked so that each text is linked to one or more other texts by common images, symbols or sensations.

A COOPERATION

"I wanted to offer Melusina's artwork the space for her silent work to flourish. There had to be room to feel small, humble and lost"

"Milena's stories compose a portrait showing something placed between memory, reality, imagination, dream and abstract thought"

OUR REAL IS A COLLAGE

“Fragments” questions our view of reality, a reality split into small disparate elements that we are constantly trying to link together to give meaning to our existence. Recent neuroscience works describe this process of consciousness, simplifying and interpreting our perceptions.

Our representation of reality is structured in perfect geometric forms that do not exist. They do not exist either in the physical reality or the social reality. This process is one, or the root of temptation of the, political ideal, which distances us from reality and leads us astray into alternative truths that bit by bit lead us to violence against the other, against yourself and, at the end, extermination.

EXHIBITION

The exhibition is installed in a skybox of 180 x 112 sqm, split in two parts : "inside", showed in a bunker, and "outside" in a landscaped crossed by a straight road.

SL EBOOK

All the pictures and texts are published in an ebook readable in Second Life. Melusina Parkin and Milena Carbone are both publishing ebooks of their artwork and which can be bought in world.

A bookstore is installed in the middle of a bunker showing the "inside" pictures of the exhibition, where you can buy the book for 490 LD, and other books of both artists. It is possible to teleport to each main bookstore.

A giant slideshow of the book is displayed in the exhibition.

CONTEMPORARY BALLET

Fragments is also the second contemporary ballet performed by The Carbone Dance Company. The 50 minutes ballet is in seven pieces on Steve Reich's music. It will be shown in the exhibition itself, in an immersive staging composed by panels of photography and frames.

The libretto is composed by exerpts from texts of the book "Fragments", written and read by Milena Carbone herself.
