LIVING PICTURE #4
Living Picture #4 is based on african music : Ballaké Sissoko - Vincent Segal, and Youssou N’Dour - Neneh Cherry. The video sequence (27 minutes) is shorter than the dance sequence (28 minutes). The 50 unique dances used for the choreography fit to every part of the music.
Africa is the birthplace of humanity. The diversity of the landscapes and the beauty of the inhabitants suggest Paradise. African culture, including fine arts, music and dance, has inspired artists from all over the world.
Yet Africa is a devastated continent, plundered and defiled by the great financial, economic and military powers. It will be the continent most affected by climate change in the next 30 years: unbearable temperatures for humans with, at the same time, a population that will reach 1.4 billion inhabitants. The near future of Africa is almost written: famines, wars and forced migrations.
What to think of a living species that knowingly despises its origins ? Wake up : it is humanity that we are killing by strangulation.
Living Picture #4 is the preamble of the second part of the exhibition "The 5th season" and apology for the beauty and the natural and human wealth of Africa.
